A Big MIstake

What do you do when you know that someone you love dearly is making a huge mistake?

My 16 year old niece wants to quit school and I think she is making a huge mistake. I quit school when I was 16 so I know it is a mistake to do it.The only thing I can say in my own defense is that I started working 2 days after I quit and worked for 10 years before I got pregnant with my first child. It was hard for me to find good jobs but I did work where ever I could I was at one job for 5 years. I actually made it up to assistant manager but it took a lot of hard work to prove myself.

I did get my GED back in 2002 and let me say that was one hard test.

Anyway back to my niece I have tried to talk to her telling her the struggles I went through trying get get a good paying job. I still struggle to find descent jobs because of not having a college degree. She has her mind set on it though she says that high school is to stressful for her. She can't handle going there everyday and having to put up with people saying they are going to beat her up. She was jumped by a group of girls last year and got beat pretty bad. Since then my brother and his family have moved to a new area which means she will go to a different school. Now that is her reason for not wanting to go she doesn't want to go to a different school and have to start over making new friends.

I am looking for some advice here does anyone have any idea for something that I can say to her to convince her she is making a mistake?

Tell her how you feel, and ask her what you can do to help her. Ultiately it's her own decision, all you can do is be there for her, and be supportive. Yes, it's a huge mistake, but she won't know that until she learns it for herself. Thank you btw for your comment on my blog, and for adding me to your blog list!

That is a tough one. I think being there for support and to just listen to her would be very important. I mean really listen, without telling her your own opinion right away. That way she'll trust you more. Just let her know you love her.
