Meet Tom

Every month my daughter and I have to do a project for school together this month she had to choose between a 3 dimensional turkey or a mobile of her favorite book.
I would like you to meet Tom Isn't he just the cutest? I like to think he is who knew I was so crafty? Not me that's for sure.

My daughter added the googlie eyes and tail feathers I did the other feathers and the beak. The patches of white you see are actually white feathers not the Styrofoam ball.

Karma Is A Bitch........

Hey all well the morning didn't start off as well as I had wanted it to. See what happens when you get overly excited about the kids going off to school and having the house all to yourself. Karma comes along and slaps you right in the pie hole.

The kids get up with no problems my daughter is actually excited about going to school and wakes up with a smile on her face and says "woo hoo it's the first day of school". Hey what happened to my daughter was she replaced by aliens while she was sleeping? This is the same little girl who last year decided after 2 months of school that the teacher was an IDIOT and she was never going back. Let me tell you she absolutely meant it to. The next few weeks after this statement it was like a demon had taken over my daughters body in the mornings. She would throw herself on the floor and scream bloody murder and refused to get ready for school. I had to take her to the guidance office to ask them what I should do.They said she was going through what all 5 year olds do it was a power struggle and I needed to win it. Well good luck with that.It did get better over time but it was a long, long, long process.

Now back to this morning I get the kids ready we go to the bus stop at 6:30 a.m. to get the first bus no problem the bus is there at 6:35. So me and the boy sit there to wait for his bus to come and we wait and wait and wait. Guess what THE DAMN BUS NEVER CAME!!!!!!! Well a bus passed by at 6:40 but just kept going so I call the school they say "it's the first day and the bus is running a little late just wait a bit longer.I ask well what time is it supposed to come? It's supposed to be there at 6:57 and it's only 6:50 so I'm thinking oh ok I'm just being impatient.

There's no way the bus that passed by earlier could have been his bus that's what the lady at the school said. Well guess what lady YOU WERE WRONG!! It sure was his bus that just drove right on by.

I wound up having to drive him to school because after the third time of calling the school to find out where the bus was at 7:20.I find out the bus was at the school unloading the kids that he did pick up.

So I go in to the school to find out what the hell is going on and of course no one knows and someone has to check this and that. I was so pissed off my son was already having an anxiety attack about going into the middle school worrying about someone stuffing him into a trash can. He actually said that to me, see he is small for his age he is 11 and only weighs 65 lbs. So unfortunately his fears may be carried out by some 8th grade jock trying to impress his friends. All I can say is it had better not happen cause this mom don't play that!!!!

Now I'm stuck in an 80's music time warp and loving every single minute of it. I started off with some Bad Company "The way I Choose" Rock Steady" "Can't get Enough Of Your Love"
Move on to some Foreigner "Seventeen" "Blinded By Science"
Some Phil Collins "Mama" that song rocks. and now I am getting ready to put in some Zeppelin and chill out with some "Rain Song" and "Down By The Seaside" "In The Light" and pray to the lord above that the stupid ass bus driver remembers to bring my son home.......

Oh Happy Day

I am sitting here in utter bliss for tomorrow is the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL....
You can't see me but I am doing my happy dance!! This has been a long boring argument infested summer. My kids have argued about anything and everything from "she's not brushing her teeth right" to "he's looking at me".

So damn right I'm happy school is starting I am going to dance around the house in my undies listening to my favorite house cleaning cassette tape.Yes you didn't read it wrong I said cassette tape.I have many... don't judge me I just refuse to go buy cd's because it would cost me a couple hundred dollars and they all play fine so NOW....

Anyway back to my favorite cassette Foreigner's Head Games is my favorite dance around the house in my undies while cleaning and playing the occasional air guitar and drums cassette of choice. It brings back memories of my tween years and it's just totally awesome. Did you like my throw back to the eighties talk? I know you did.

I can't wait to have some well deserved privacy I haven't been able to take a crap without someone coming to the door asking for this or that. It is going to feel good to not have to hold in a possible fart or two for fear of someone hearing it. Or maybe pick out the occasional wedgie without checking to see who is behind me or lurking around the corner. Oh happy day!!!!

So if I'm late tomorrow getting a post out or making my daily comment rounds be happy for me. Picture me with the stereo full blast dancing around like an ass but having a great time doing it.

A Big MIstake

What do you do when you know that someone you love dearly is making a huge mistake?

My 16 year old niece wants to quit school and I think she is making a huge mistake. I quit school when I was 16 so I know it is a mistake to do it.The only thing I can say in my own defense is that I started working 2 days after I quit and worked for 10 years before I got pregnant with my first child. It was hard for me to find good jobs but I did work where ever I could I was at one job for 5 years. I actually made it up to assistant manager but it took a lot of hard work to prove myself.

I did get my GED back in 2002 and let me say that was one hard test.

Anyway back to my niece I have tried to talk to her telling her the struggles I went through trying get get a good paying job. I still struggle to find descent jobs because of not having a college degree. She has her mind set on it though she says that high school is to stressful for her. She can't handle going there everyday and having to put up with people saying they are going to beat her up. She was jumped by a group of girls last year and got beat pretty bad. Since then my brother and his family have moved to a new area which means she will go to a different school. Now that is her reason for not wanting to go she doesn't want to go to a different school and have to start over making new friends.

I am looking for some advice here does anyone have any idea for something that I can say to her to convince her she is making a mistake?

Getting Ready

Not to much going on today just hanging out with the kids. They start school in a few short weeks so we were getting ready by working on some school practice books together. My daughter who is 6 was excited to do the workbooks she actually likes school. She did very well on the reading and writing.

She is very excited about going into 1st grade this year. She is a bit nervous about the kind of work she will be doing. I think she will do fine she learns very quickly. Last year she actually had a lot of homework there were days when she would bring home 4 pages of worksheets. I was kind of surprised at how much she had to do daily. But she would come home from school change her clothes and grab a snack and get right to her work. Lets hope she is the same way this year.

My son who is 11 wasn't excited at all in fact far from it. I gave him money problems to do and some multiplication, and time practices to do. He did better than he thought I hope he is prepared for what the 6th grade is going to be like. He had a really hard time last year and almost didn't make it. He brought home work last year that I had a hard time helping him with. So I guess I should have said I hope we are prepared for the 6th grade.

School just isn't what I remember it being I don't remember getting algebra until 9th grade but he had it starting in the 4th grade. Some of it I remembered the harder stuff came last year I had to call my niece who was in college at the time to get her to help us. So I an sure we will be calling on her again this year.

School Supplies

I had a post all worked out in my head. I was going to have a picture of The boy up and talk all about him getting ready for the 6th grade. But for some reason my blogger won't let me upload the photo.I guess I will have to wait on the picture and figure out something else to write about. HMMM lets see !!!!

How about I tell you about all the school supplies I had to get over this past tax free weekend. My daughter is going into 1st grade and her list was like a mile long. She needed 6 composition notebooks 6 isn't that just a little crazy for 1st grade? A disposable camera! What is that for? Here's one on the list that may surprise you 4 tennis balls. What may you ask does she need them for well I will tell you. She needs them so the teacher can put them on the feet of her chair so when she slides the chair it doesn't scuff the floor.

Now I'm not a unreasonable person I get the school supplies pencils, notebooks, crayons things of this nature. I refuse to buy tennis balls for this purpose I could see if she needed them for gym class or even some kind of project. But after spending over $100.00 on actual supplies I refuse to get anything not necessary for helping my child learn. If the school wants to keep the floors scuff free then use my so called school tax dollars to buy the freaking balls.

I have a problem with how things are done in the schools how we as the parents have to supply everything. When I was a kid all I needed to bring to school was a notebook and maybe a pencil. Now the school supplies NOTHING!!!! Where does all the money go? Last year I got a note home from my kids teachers saying they had ran out of paper and were asking the parents to send in some. I don't mind helping out but for goodness sakes your a school how come you don't have one of the most important things like paper. It's crazy!!!!

Do you think I am being unreasonable? Do any of you have anything on your school supply list you think is outrageous? Or do you think having to buy school supplies at all is outrageous?

A Mothers realization

Today started out good the sun was shining and there was a cool breeze blowing. I went out to do some errands before I had to head off to my son's school for field day. I had the radio on while I was driving and the great music just kept on coming. I had the window down and was singing and dancing. Going from place to place getting things done got home after all was complete had some lunch.

I was so excited about going to see my boy I have been going to all of his school events since he was in preschool. It's a mothers right to go to these functions to cheer him and his classmates on. It has always been such a joy for me to see him do well he is a fast runner so he is always the one who has to do all the running events.

But my day went horribly wrong see today was the day I as a mother have been dreading for 11 years (that is how old my boy is). Today I realized my boy is growing up and he didn't want me to be at his school for field day. I know this because in all of his school years he was always excited to see me come walking in the room or out on the field whatever the case may be. Today was different he avoided me just came over to me when I said "hey son how is it going". SIGH!

I sat next to him as I have always done and he didn't say a word he just looked around at all the other kids chatting with them cheering with them. Ok that's fine I can understand that is what they do but. As I sat there beside my son I could sense his uncomfortableness. So I said to him "Did you want me to hang here or go ahead and go" Know what he said he said "You can go if you want". :( That took a big chunk out of my heart.

So I said "Ok son have fun and good luck" . I was going to go and stand in the back of the room so I could wait for him to be in an event because when I had gotten there he hadn't had a turn yet. So I go to the back where I can see him but he can't see me and wait. Luckily he was in the next evet so I got a chance to se him. The event was called moon walking the kids had these metal alien looking things on their heads that they had to walk to the cone at the end while balancing these alien things on their heads. Well he was walking along and I am smiling wide watching him and low and behold he sees me and stumbles and drops the things on his head and gives me a look of disappointment.

I felt my heart break as he bent down to pick up the alien things and go back to the beginning and start all over. So I put my tail between my legs swallowed my heart and walked out of the building. I was thinking to myself the whole way to my car Oh my goodness my son doesn't need me anymore. I had to hold back the tears that I felt burning in my eyes. How could this happen? When did this happen? How do I deal with this?

I guees it's all a part of growing up and I have to learn that in private my son is mommy's baby boy. At school and in public he is my big strong man. This is something I will deal with in my own time and my own way. I still LOVE my boy.
